Cross Strings - The strings that run perpendicular to the long axis of your racquet. These generally get less wear than the main strings.
Penalty point -.
Clean winner - A shot that cannot be reached by the opponent.
Volley - a shot taken by hitting the ball on the fly. Note that overheads are a kind of volley.
Shock - Shock is the initial force transmitted to your hand and arm from the ball's impact with the racquet face. It is an important factor in causing many types of cumulative injuries. Shock can be reduced by increasing racquet weight and/or flexibility and lowering string tension.
Balance - The distribution of weight along the length of the racquet and usually referred to as head heavy, head light, or even. The measurement is calculated by the degree of weight distribution between the midpoint of the racquets length and the point where it balances. Generally speaking, a standard 27 inch frame will have an even balance point of 13.5 inches.
Sidespin - Spin around the ball's vertical axis, applied by drawing the racket strings horizontally across the ball at the moment of contact.
